Things to do in Spring Lake, NJ

Everyone needs a break from the beach... sometimes. The Shore has so much to offer even on a cloudy day. Golf, parks, trails, concerts, shopping, and cultural centers await you.

Allaire Historic Village

The Historic Village at Allaire was once an iron-producing, factory-town known as the Howell Iron Works, Co. The Village was a self-sufficient community containing a carpentry and pattern making shop, a blacksmith shop, a bakery, a boarding house, a blast furnace, mills to finish iron products, a school, a church, a general store with a post office, and workers’ home. Iron produced at the village was shipped to New York City by wagon and steamship. It was used to produce steam engines parts in a factory also owned by our proprietor, James P. Allaire. The Howell Iron Works, as a community, speaks to the experiences of the economic and social changes of those who experienced early Industrial America. Today the Historic Village at Allaire is an interactive museum where visitors can experience history directly through hands-on activities.

Edgar Felix Bike Path

Starting at the trailhead in Manasquan, you can take an on-street bike route through the town for 2 miles to the beach. Traveling in the other direction, the trail passes residential neighborhoods and a recreational complex on the way out of town. At 1.2 miles, you come to the Wall Township Bike Path, which heads north 1.7 miles to a government complex. As you proceed along the trail, the surroundings become more rural with woods mixed with fields. You’ll reach Allenwood about 2.7 miles from the start, where you’ll find a general store with refreshments and trailside tables. Returning to rural countryside, you’ll cross two pedestrian bridges that leapfrog trail users over the eight-lane Garden State Parkway. Crossing Hospital Road, the trail continues as a spur route of the future Capital to the Coast Trail into Allaire State Park. (A left turn onto another trail adjacent to Hospital Road heads south 0.4 mile to a parking lot and fishing on the Manasquan River.) You’ll pass old farm fields, forests, and ponds with waterfowl as you learn about the area from interpretive signs.

Showroom Cinemas

The ShowRoom Cinema opened as a single-screen 50 seat movie theater in Asbury Park NJ in April of 2009. Our goal was to bring provocative and relevant independent movies and special events that engage audiences to the downtown. By 2012, The ShowRoom Cinema evolved into a leading 3-screen independent cinema and the entertainment destination for Asbury Park’s eclectic, exciting, art-infused downtown shopping district. In November 2018, The ShowRoom Cinema acquired the single-screen Beach Cinema in Bradley Beach, NJ. The iconic 1920’s era theater was a long-time anchor tenant to this Jersey shore downtown. ShowRoom owners Michael Sodano and Nancy Sabino intend to revitalize the cinema by modernizing the systems and infrastructure of the cinema and look forward to adding additional auditoriums for expanded entertainment choices.
